The Sólheimasandur aircraft wreck rests on a broad expanse of black sand between the mountains and the ocean. Its minimal surroundings give this South Coast landmark a very different setting.
Getting there on foot means a long walk across open, mostly flat terrain. The route is exposed to coastal wind and weather, so allow enough time for the return and prepare for the conditions. This is a different wreck from the aircraft at Eyvindarholt.
